Why We're Building SigmaZ
The story behind our mission to build the world's most effective AI learning agent — and why we believe the future of learning is generative, interactive, and multimodal.

The Problem That Wouldn't Leave Us Alone
Every person on our founding team has a version of the same story. We've all sat across from a brilliant professor, mentor, or tutor — and felt that rare experience of someone who truly understood how we think, who knew exactly when to slow down and when to push forward, who could take a concept that felt abstract and make it feel inevitable.
And then we've all experienced the alternative: working through dense documentation alone at midnight, rewatching the same video lecture three times without it clicking, asking an AI chatbot a nuanced question and getting back a wall of generic text that doesn't quite hit the mark.
The gap between these two experiences is enormous. And it's a gap that technology hasn't seriously tried to close — until now.
Why Current AI Learning Tools Fall Short
The past two years have seen an explosion of AI-powered education tools. Most of them follow the same template: upload a PDF, ask questions, get text answers. Some add features like quizzes or summaries. A few integrate voice.
But none of them feel like learning with a great teacher. Why? Because they're missing three things that define genuinely effective instruction:
- Generativity — A great teacher doesn't recite notes. They construct explanations in real time, tailored to your specific mental model and where it's breaking down.
- Interactivity — Learning is a two-way process. Great tutors don't just speak — they watch for confusion, ask probing questions, and adapt instantly.
- Multimodality — Understanding complex ideas often requires more than words. A great teacher reaches for a whiteboard, draws a diagram, runs a quick calculation, shows you a real-world example. Static text can't do this.
What We're Building
SigmaZ is our answer to this gap. We're building a multimodal AI agent that goes far beyond the "PDF chat" paradigm. SigmaZ doesn't just retrieve information — it generates interactive experiences.
Ask SigmaZ to explain how a sorting algorithm works, and it won't just write a paragraph. It will generate a live, interactive visualization you can step through. Ask it to help you understand a balance sheet, and it will produce an annotated, interactive financial model. Ask it to quiz you on a concept, and it will adapt the difficulty in real time based on how you're doing.
This is what we mean by Generative UI: the AI doesn't just respond in text — it builds the right interface for the moment.
Our Team and Why We're the Right People to Build This
Building something this ambitious requires both deep technical capability and a genuine understanding of how learning works. Our team brings both.
Our founders and core team hold degrees from Cambridge, Oxford, and Imperial College London. Our operators have led AI, growth, and product functions at Amazon, Alibaba, ByteDance, and SHEIN — companies that have collectively shaped how billions of people work and learn online.
We're headquartered in the United States, with a global team and a global vision. And we've completed two rounds of multi-million dollar funding from investors who share our belief that the way humans and AI learn together is about to change dramatically.
What Comes Next
We're in private beta and onboarding our first wave of users. We're working with educators, enterprise L&D teams, and individual learners who want to be part of shaping what SigmaZ becomes.
If this resonates with you — if you've felt that gap between a great tutor and every tool that's tried to replace one — we'd love to have you involved.
